. . . so I wonder when the UK government will wake up, read the research and do the right thing!? It’s local election time in the UK today and hopes are high that the party who brought the unwanted town wifi system to Glastonbury in Somerset will be voted out in favour of councillors who care about the health and wellbeing of residents there. France seems to be way ahead of the UK on this one, according to this article in the Times:
Mobile phones and wi-fi may be a bigger threat to the health of our children than we’re being told. One government report, prepared in France, suggests both can damage the developing brain – and now mobile phones are being banned in every primary school in the country.
French judges are also supporting local residents’ groups in their call to have mobile phone masts dismantled. Radiation from the masts has been blamed for insomnia, headaches, fatigue and cancer in communities living close to a mast.
These moves will concern telecoms companies everywhere, and will encourage pressure groups that have campaigned for greater control of mobile phones, masts and wi-fi networks.
Other health authorities have claimed that mobile phones are safe to use, although the UK experts have been concerned that they shouldn’t be used by children as electromagnetic radiation from them may affect the developing brain.
The French authorities have gone further, and have stated that mobile phones and wi-fi represent a real threat to children’s health. As a result, all primary schools are banning mobile phone use by pupils aged 14 and younger. Even so, campaigners in France say the response has been “inadequate”, and accuse the review body of playing down the real dangers of mobile phone, wi-fi and phone mast radiation.
